Buy and sell safely
Most people are honest, but a few simple rules protect you from the rare scam.
Before you pay
Always see the car in person, in daylight, ideally with a mechanic you trust.
Never pay a deposit or send money to someone you haven't met, especially for a car that is "abroad" or "in transport".
Be careful with prices that are much lower than similar cars.
Check the car and the papers
Compare the chassis number (VIN) on the car with the papers.
Ask for the customs documents for imported cars, and check that the seller is the owner in the traffic licence.
Ask for the service book and invoices; check the mileage against the service records.
Payment and handover
Sign the sale contract at a notary, as required in North Macedonia.
Prefer bank transfer to large amounts of cash. Don't hand over the keys or papers before the money has arrived.
If you are selling
Never send codes you receive by SMS to anyone. Be careful with buyers who want to pay more than the price or send a "courier".
Don't let anyone take a test drive without you and without seeing their driving licence.
